Fire Prevention Office

A Message from Fire Marshal’s office

Currently under the direction of the Fire Chief, the Prevention Division provides several services to the citizens of the fire district. The Fire Prevention Office is responsible for planning and providing several services. Services include: fire and life safety inspections for commercial properties, plan reviews for development and construction, Wildland and urban interface requirements and education, water supply testing and record-keeping, fire investigations, public education, juvenile fire setter intervention, code consultation, data collection, home fire inspections, smoke and carbon monoxide alarm education and installation, as well as providing input to state wide programs and laws.

The Fire Prevention Division of Siuslaw Valley Fire and Rescue provides a wide range of Public Education that, without the great support from the volunteer firefighters, would not exist. The division provides free extinguisher classes, fire and life safety presentations to any and all groups, as well as to students from preschool to 12th grade. Tours of the fire station are also provided. The division works closely with the City of Florence, the school district, Lane County, Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office, Oregon Department of Forestry, and the U.S. Forest Service.

We offer many services to our community. We provide code enforcement, plan reviews, consultations on projects to make certain they meet code, smoke alarm installation, and address marker installation. One of our goals is to make certain that there is a working smoke alarm in every home in the fire district. In our effort to achieve that goal, we sponsor an annual smoke alarm campaign to review your home set up and if eligible to provide battery operated alarms.

In addition, we provide educational programs in our schools and for senior citizens, fire extinguisher training for our local businesses upon request. Annually we work with the school district and the pre-schools to provide the most up-to-date, age appropriate education possible, proceeding through the entire year reinforcing what the students have learned. We enjoy being invited to make presentations to service organizations and groups on various safety issues. We also work very closely with the local media to provide information to the community, and thank them for their continued support.

2020 was a busy year for most of the Western states with wildland fires. We are proud to be part of an organization that went to assist our neighboring states to help with fires. With wildland fire on everyone’s mind, currently Siuslaw Valley Fire & Rescue is working on better equipping the department and with educational training for citizens in urban and rural areas upon request. If you have any questions or concerns do not hesitate to reach out for answers through our department.

You can expect to receive the most professional and courteous service from Western Lane Fire and EMS.

You are welcome to contact us should you have any questions or concerns about fire and life safety issues, outdoor burning issues, free home fire and life safety inspections, and free smoke alarm inspections/installations at info@wlfea.org.
